PRP & Stem Cell Therapy

Dr. Brad Dresher brings the most advanced medical technologies to Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group, including ultrasound guided injections, minimally invasive surgery, platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy and stem cell therapy.

Stem Cell Therapy

Stem cell therapy is a groundbreaking treatment used to more effectively heal orthopedic injuries and conditions that cause pain. The orthopedic surgeons at Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group are among the first to offer stem cell therapy for patients in the area.

The stem cells we use at CSOG come from placental tissue. They are harvested from the amniotic membrane (AM) and amniotic fluid (AF) following the birth of a child by cesarean section (C-section). The placenta would typically be discarded unless it is being used for stem cell harvesting. Using placental stem cells is a safe, well-developed method used in many areas of medicine.

Getting stem cell therapy is similar to receiving a cortisone shot. The injection will be given as close as possible to the source of pain or injury to deliver a large number of stem cells to the injured area and provide the most effective relief. The injection site will be numbed, making the entire process quick, easy, and practically painless.

PRP Therapy (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group is excited to offer platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, a revolutionary non-invasive treatment that relieves pain and promotes long-lasting healing of bone, muscle, and joint conditions. Our board-certified physicians have received advanced training in PRP therapy and are excited to be able to offer this treatment option to our Colorado Springs patients.

The body’s first response to any soft tissue injury is to deliver platelet cells to the affected area. Filled with healing and growth factors, platelets jump-start the repair process and attract the essential aid of stem cells. PRP therapy’s natural healing process accelerates the body’s efforts by delivering a higher concentration of platelets through a simple injection at the site of the injury.

By treating injured tissues before the damage progresses and the condition becomes irreversible, PRP therapy can help eliminate the need for surgery. It may also be used as a treatment for people who are not candidates for surgery. Because your own blood is used, there is no risk of a transmissible infection and a very low risk of allergic reaction.
